Q: How did you first get involved with ULI and your committees?
Back in 2018, a colleague brought me to the WLI New Year Kickoff Happy Hour event. This gathering of accomplished women who were leaders in their field left a lasting impression. Shortly thereafter, I had a coffee chat with Kathleen Burgi-Sandell, who served as a co-chair at the time. This conversation led to my active involvement with the committee and programs organization.
Q: What’s a memorable connection you’ve made through ULI?
There are so many! The connections I really treasure are the ones forged through WLI Connects. A group of us within the WLI committee launched this cohort program back in 2022. This initiative offers mid to senior-level women in the real estate industry a valuable chance to connect with their peers in a small-group setting.
Q: What keeps you engaged with ULI SF and what are you most excited about in the near future?
Engaging with ULI SF has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The diversity of opportunities to collaborate with high-caliber professionals is truly remarkable. Additionally, having a committed ULI staff team to work with has been invaluable. Recently, I was invited to join the ULI SF Executive Board, and I am very excited for the chance to engage and represent the WLI committee.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish in the next year?
At the committee level, we are working hard to bring more in-person engagements, important to women in the industry and to the WLI members. On a professional level, I’ve been involved in several interesting opportunities related to San Francisco downtown renewal and repurposing of existing buildings. I am hoping to see at least one of these projects come to fruition.
Q: What’s your leadership philosophy/style?
As a leader, I strive to cultivate a strong sense of collaborative engagement, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard during discussions. Supporting young talent and providing them with opportunities to be heard and recognized is a top priority for me.
Q: What’s front of mind for you right now?
Anticipating the return to our newly renovated San Francisco office next month. I am looking forward to reconnecting with many of my colleagues. On a personal note, my daughter’s college graduation is just a couple of months away—a truly exciting milestone!
Q: Outside of work and ULI, what do you enjoy doing?
Weekend road trips and biking with friends along the coastline, from Big Sur to Mendocino. There is always more to discover.
Q: What’s at the top of your ‘bucket list’?
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of living across four continents and working on many interesting projects. At the top of my “ bucket list” is a trip with my daughters to revisit those projects and friends scattered across the globe. I am so looking forward to it!
Thank you, Zorana, for your commitment and leadership within WLI and throughout our district council!
