Attending this event, you will learn and witness what makes Oakland Chinatown unique is that it is a living, connected and engaged community with businesses and cultural institutions that serve its residents. With its prime location adjacent to Oakland City Center, it hasn’t been immune to the steady erosion of gentrification and displacement. As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, residents, particularly elders, continue to face community safety issues.
The program will begin with a presentation of Chinatown’s history showcasing special projects, followed by a walking tour, and conclude with an optional lunch (at your own expense) at a local restaurant (we’ll make group reservations from which you can choose after registration).
