Join us on October 4th from 9-11am to learn how UrbanPlan supports the next generation of diverse real estate leaders. This interactive training will prepare you to become an UrbanPlan volunteer at a future workshop for public officials or students. This is a great way to get to know other ULI members, explore giving back and volunteering yourself, and get a taste of the concepts covered in an UrbanPlan workshop, all over coffee and a light breakfast.

UrbanPlan is a realistic, engaging exercise in which participants—high school and university students, or public officials—learn the fundamental forces that affect development in our communities. Participants compete to redevelop the fictional neighborhood of Elmwood, and in the process become empowered to engage effectively in land use decisions with their communities. As ULI member volunteers, you will help the students consider their choices, understand the trade-offs, and learn about different careers in the real estate industry. See the testimonials below to better understand the impact that this program has on students and volunteers.
This East Bay training will be held at the AIA East Bay office at 2150 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA 94704.
In advance of this session, we ask that you complete this one-hour on-demand training, and then join your fellow members on Wednesday, October 4th from 9 to 11 AM to test out your facilitation skills, play with some LEGOs, and ask any questions. What's better than your ULI friends, LEGOs, and some coffee?

    Testimonials from UrbanPlan Participants
“I was lucky enough to do UrbanPlan as a junior in high school, and it was my favorite ever academic project. When I went on to college, I kept UrbanPlan in mind, and the memory of it steered me to pursuing a career in mixed-use real estate.” - Madeleine Roberts, former UrbanPlan student and current volunteer

“Until you’ve actually done UrbanPlan, you cannot fully appreciate the power of the program. We as seasoned development professionals must step-up as volunteers. The time commitment is minor, yet the impact is powerful” - Carl Shannon, Senior Managing Director for Tishman Speyer

"UrbanPlan has enabled thousands of real estate professionals to communicate directly with tens of thousands of high school students, college students, and public officials to better understand the economic and political forces that shape the communities in which they live. Engaging with these bright students lifts my spirits. It is a privilege!” - Ron Nahas, Partner at Rafanelli and Nahas LLP
