Pride 2023: Read, Watch, Listen and Act with ULI SF
ULI proudly stands in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ community as we honor and celebrate Pride throughout the month of June.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Short for “June Nineteenth,” the celebration marks the day in 1865 that federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure that all enslaved people would be freed, two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. In 2021, this long-standing commemoration became recognized as a federal holiday. In his proclamation of Juneteenth observance in 2022, President Biden remarked that this holiday is an opportunity to “recommit to our shared work to ensure racial justice, equity, and equality in America.”
Join ULI San Francisco as we honor this date in history, explore its significance, and support community events in our journey to create a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse space for all.
