Get to know some of the ULI San Francisco members who work hard behind the scenes to develop the events and initiatives for which our District Council is known. These industry leaders come from a variety of real estate land use sectors and lend their expertise and time to drive the work of our committees. We’ve asked these committee co-chairs to answer questions about their involvement with ULI San Francisco.
Justin Zucker, NEXT Co-Chair & Gala Co-Chair

Q: How did you first get involved with ULI and your committee?
At first, by going to events and then participating in the NEXT Cohorts program. I found the Cohort format of meeting monthly with the same small group of like-minded professionals throughout the year very engaging and rewarding. I then began exploring ways to get involved and joined the NEXT steering committee, helping with program events and coordination of the Cohort program.
Q: What’s a memorable connection you’ve made through ULI?
I’ve built numerous deep connections with others in the real estate industry through participation in the NEXT Cohort program. The bonds I’ve made have been beneficial both professionally and personally, from brainstorming or working on a deal to gabbing about parenting struggles and joys.
Q: What keeps you engaged with ULI SF and what are you most excited about in the near future?
The programming and people. The programming is always stellar with salient content useful to my land use practice, including the annual Housing the Bay Summit. ULI SF’s membership is a great group of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. To that end, I’m excited about the 2024 Cohort program starting in April, which is currently accepting applications. If you haven’t checked out NEXT cohorts before and are eligible, I encourage you to apply.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish in the next year?
Over the course of the year, I’m hopeful to help grow NEXT’s membership and the Cohort program, including deeper cross-collaboration with the WLI Connects program. Also, while seemingly far off in the distance, I am looking forward to a successful third annual Gala in the fall. Hope to see you there.
Q: What’s your leadership philosophy/style?
I believe in a collaborative approach. When working on a team, each contributor brings their own perspective and often different strengths. Uniting all in a collegial and respectful manner, I find, results in a better finished product, whether it be a panel discussion, memorandum, or event.
Q: Outside of work and ULI, what do you enjoy doing?
When not entertaining my two kids or chauffeuring them around, I’m often found either in the yard tending our garden or in the kitchen preparing the next family meal. When the weather is right, you can find me with the family sailing Lake Tahoe.
Q: If you could have any career in another profession, what would it be?
While I thoroughly enjoy land use and the law, I could see myself enjoying being a high school teacher, either mathematics or the arts. I think it would be rewarding to engage and help our future leaders, especially at such a pivotal point in their trajectory.
