The Human and Social Dimensions of Resilience: Bouncing Forward into Communities of Opportunity
Environmentalist, entrepreneur, and author Paul Hawken, who has written about how the environment provides necessary services for the economy, will join a panel of four national leaders in the fields of neurobiology, the environment, community planning, and green development to discuss how to weave the physical and human dimensions of resilience together. Moderated by Jonathan Rose, President, Jonathan Rose Companies, the panel will also feature Peter Calthorp, Principal, Calthorpe Associates and Dan Siegel, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles, and Executive Director, Mindsight Institute.
Through the Rearview Mirror: Leadership Lessons from Loma Prieta, Katrina, and Sandy
How public agencies and private companies work together to prepare for a disaster will dictate how well a community comes through it. Hear from those involved what lessons have been learned from the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and Superstorm Sandy in 2013. This discussion will be moderated by Mary Comerio, Professor of the Graduate School, University of California at Berkeley, with discussion leaders Patrick Otellini, Chief Resilience Officer, City of San Francisco, Robin Barnes, Executive Vice President and COO, Greater New Orleans, Inc., and Jamie Springer, Partner, HR&A.
