ULI San Francisco is excited to share that we have been selected to participate in the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing’s Homeless to Housed (H2H) initiative for a second consecutive year. This initiative seeks innovative real estate solutions to the urgent humanitarian and economic crisis impacting communities across the nation. Key aspects of the program include conducting in-depth research, fostering cross-sector collaboration, providing local technical assistance through ULI’s network of district councils, and sharing expertise to address housing challenges for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
ULI San Francisco is one of five ULI district councils to participate in this year’s Homeless to Housed initiative. In support of the City of Fremont, ULI SF will organize a technical assistance workshop to explore opportunities for expanding the city’s Winter Relief and shelter intervention programs that repurpose surplus hotel rooms. This approach aims to create a mutually beneficial solution, where unsheltered clients provide a consistent revenue stream for property owners facing post-COVID occupancy challenges, while also expanding much-needed non-congregant shelter options in Fremont.
Previously, in 2023, ULI San Francisco was chosen as part of the inaugural Homeless to Housed cohort. Through grant funding from the H2H Initiative and the Attainable Housing for All Campaign, ULI SF collaborated with the City of San José to develop actionable strategies for addressing homelessness. This effort focused on repurposing underutilized land owned by places of worship, faith-based organizations, and nonprofits to create housing solutions for low-income and unsheltered residents.
