ULI district councils deliver the Institute’s mission at the local level by providing members with education, networking, and opportunities to give back to the community. With over 2,100 members across the Bay Area, ULI San Francisco (ULI SF) represents one of the Institute’s largest district councils and is the preeminent local organization focused on creating and sustaining communities through wise land use, development, and redevelopment decisions.
ULI San Francisco (ULI SF) seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented Public Sector & Community Engagement Coordinator to support ULI SF’s public sector initiatives and local programming. As part of a small, high-performing team, this role is ideal for someone with experience in project management, knowledge of ULI’s core issues and mission, and a passion for land use, real estate, and/or urban planning.
The Public Sector & Community Engagement Coordinator will manage ULI SF’s public sector initiatives in addition to managing several committees that develop programs and events for ULI SF’s membership. Responsibilities will include committee management, workshop planning and oversight, program management, event logistics, and serving as a key resource for members. Strong candidates will be highly organized, proactive, and comfortable juggling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. A background in real estate, urban planning, or a related field is desired. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential.
The ULI SF team is currently working in a hybrid environment with 1-3 days a week in-person at our San Francisco office. Attendance in person at our office and at events will be required. All ULI staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The salary range for this position has been set at $68,530 – $71,940. Actual salaries will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors. The range listed is just one component of ULI’s total compensation package for employees, which includes a full and competitive benefits package.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
The Public Sector & Community Engagement Coordinator will collaborate with the Executive Director and district council staff on local public sector initiatives (including TAPs, City Trainings, and UrbanPlan for Communities workshops), support of ULI SF’s P3 Local Product Council (LPC), programming for our Women’s Leadership initiative (WLI), and support for the ULI Fall Meeting being held in SF in November.
Local Public-Sector Initiatives
Manage the execution and implementation of local district council public-sector initiatives including but not limited to managing and implementing the following programs:
- Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) program, which brings together member experts to provide multidisciplinary advice to local governments, public agencies, and nonprofit organizations facing complex land use and real estate issues.
- UrbanPlan for Communities, which is an immersive workshop for public officials and community leaders designed to highlight the competing priorities inherent in and trade-offs required to bring development projects to light.
- City Trainings, which can be a series of “Real Estate 101” trainings for staff from various city departments and public agencies or a special training for elected and appointed city leaders. This role will coordinate ULI SF member experts for each training and manage client relationships and expectations.
P3 Local Product Council
The ULI SF Local Product Councils (LPCs) provide an opportunity for members to meet in a peer-to-peer environment to share and discuss issues that real estate and land use professionals face on a daily basis. This role will support the Public, Private, Partnerships (P3) LPC. Tasks include:
- Working closely with other ULI SF staff to plan the logistics of two half-day, content-rich meetings per year.
- Support all program logistics and strive to stay within budget.
- Ensuring that dues payments, rosters, contact information for the LPC is accurate and up to date.
- Attend and support all LPC meetings by assisting with set-up, registration, audio visual (as needed), and any other needed day of support.
Events + Programs + Fall Meeting
ULI San Francisco’s member-driven committees produce over 60 programs per year, supported by ULI staff. In collaboration with ULI SF members, this role will oversee the development and execution of timely, high-value programs and events that align with ULI’s mission and serve our members and the broader industry. This role will support the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) Committee specifically but may support other programming committees as needed. Task related to events, programs, and Fall Meeting will include, but are not limited to:
- Support all programming and committee management for WLI Committee and other committees as needed.
- Manage logistics and execution of programming, including catering, venue needs, and rentals.
- Prepare and manage programming budgets, ensuring events remain within financial targets.
- Track and analyze program success metrics.
- Develop and improve internal systems to streamline event delivery.
- Attend events to ensure smooth execution and manage logistics before, during, and after.
- Assist with other Local Product Council meetings as needed.
- Support ad-hoc committee events as necessary.
- Assist in planning and executing ULI SF’s 2025 Fall Meeting in San Francisco, including tours, programs, receptions, and events.
Non-Profit Management and General Administration
All ULI SF team members contribute to the organization’s day-to-day operations. The Public Sector & Community Engagement Coordinator’s responsibilities will also include:
- Cultivating relationships with local nonprofits, public agencies, and industry leaders aligned with ULI’s mission.
- Supporting internal team meeting coordination.
- Utilizing ULI’s database to generate reports, mailing lists, event rosters, badges, and invoices.
- Performing other operational duties and managing special projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong candidates will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to accuracy. They should be effective multitaskers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and can work independently while collaborating with a team. Specific qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experiences
- 3-4 years of related experience.
- Experience in the land use and real estate industry, or related field is preferred.
- Community-minded person with strong commitment to ULI members and to our mission.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work with business and public-sector executives.
- Experience supporting volunteer teams or work in a membership based organization a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Friendly and welcoming demeanor and a collaborative attitude.
- Self-motivated, demonstrating meticulous attention to both details and deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple responsibilities concurrently with responsible follow- through.
- Fluent/proficient computer skills and strong aptitude with applications like Microsoft Office and Google Drive are required. Design skills (Adobe Creative Suite) and website software (WordPress and basic HTML) a plus.
- Ability to attend ULI events (in the early morning or evening) throughout the region.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds is required.
- Familiarity with Bay Area real estate and land use industry a plus.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
