3 Month Internship

House & Robertson Architects is a firm dedicated exclusively to providing executive architect of record services to visionary partners from around the globe. Highly collaborative and efficient, HRA specializes in project delivery rather than a design ethos. We utilize strong leadership, experience, and expertise to lead teams, develop creative solutions, and manage the unknowns. We intently balance cost, performance, and aesthetics to execute great design.

Our specialty is a team structure rather than a building type, and we have been involved in a wide variety of projects under this collaborative scenario, including hospitality, retail, dining, commercial office buildings, sports facilities, multi-family residential, theaters, museums, adaptive reuse and rehabilitation, as well as a number of highly creative interior architecture projects.

See our previous work on our website www.hrarch.com.

Entry-Level Roles & Responsibilities

At the conclusion of the internship, the successful candidate will gain a myriad of fundamental skills to evaluate the client’s programming needs with the goal of attaining the project design intent.

The candidate will be exposed to building code and life safety topics, such as:

  • Local requirements, i.e. zoning and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Building limitations, i.e. occupancy use, building heights and areas, types of construction
  • Exiting concepts, i.e. maximum travel distances and common paths of travel
  • Code-required calculations, i.e. occupant loads and plumbing fixtures
  • Egress components, with an emphasis on doors, corridors, and stairways
  • Accessibility and ADA compliance

The candidate will also learn to implement creative solutions through use of Building Information Modeling (BIM), including an understanding of:

  • External model collaboration and internal model maintenance
  • Drawing organization, hierarchies, and conventions
  • Revit modeling principles and best practices
  • Revit family creation
  • Typical details and office drawing standards

Finally, dependent on projects available under construction, the candidate may have the opportunity to shadow project architects for on-site field observations. Within the office, candidates will gain a thorough understanding of construction administration duties to expand their exposure to the complex coordination needed to take design to completion.

Interested candidates should send a resume and work samples with a maximum file size of 5 MB. Please send application materials to [email protected].
