Filipino American History Month 2022: Read, Watch, Listen & Act with ULI SF
ULI San Francisco joins the nation in celebrating Filipino American History Month and our Filipino community this October.
Get to know some of the ULI San Francisco members who work hard behind the scenes to develop the events and initiatives for which our District Council is known. These industry leaders come from a variety of real estate land use sectors and lend their expertise and time to drive the work of our committees. We’ve asked these committee co-chairs to answer questions around their involvement with ULI San Francisco.
COO, Development at Sares Regis Group Northern California
Q: How did you first get involved with ULI and your committee?
I became involved with ULI during graduate school at UC Berkeley. I realized that beyond networking I wanted to feel that I was contributing. I found the idea of UrbanPlan fascinating when I first heard about it, something I would have really enjoyed as a teenager. The first time I went into a high school classroom to facilitate I decided to focus my time and energy on that program, where I felt I could help sustain and grow what others had started.
Q: Who’s a memorable connection you’ve made through ULI?
Ron Nahas, who has probably done more to support UrbanPlan since its inception than anyone.
Q: What keeps you engaged with ULI SF, and what are you most excited about in the near future?
Developments we put together and work on have connected me to many great people, but ULI SF provides a venue to deepen those relationships by sharing knowledge and experiences and finding out what really drives people. I’m excited about getting our local UrbanPlan volunteers back in person into classrooms throughout the Bay Area.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish in the next year?
UrbanPlan needs to grow it’s base of volunteers, my hope is that we will do so by streamlining the process to train new volunteers, reach out to more prospective volunteers, and create the best experience possible for volunteers once they make it into the classrooms. One time in the classroom, and most volunteers are hooked!
Q: What is your leadership philosophy/style?
Listen first, act quickly, and move on. I believe that forward momentum is generally motivating.
Q: What is front of mind for you right now?
An economy that is shifting under our feet, which will have significant impacts on our industry, and should create opportunity and hopefully a better Bay Area on the other side.
Q: Who has been an instrumental person in your career?
My wife and three sons, who keep me on my toes, challenge me, make me laugh, and send me off to work every day feeling lucky.
