Get to know some of the ULI San Francisco members who work hard behind the scenes to develop the events and initiatives for which our District Council is known. These industry leaders come from a variety of real estate land use sectors and lend their expertise and time to drive the work of our committees. We’ve asked these committee co-chairs to answer questions about their involvement with ULI San Francisco.
Sarah Boudreau, Sustainability & Resilience Co-Chair
Senior Project Manager, LANGAN
Q. How did you first get involved with ULI and your committees?
A former coworker of mine, Pam Nieting, suggested I join to gain a better understanding of the development process as a whole and to meet some of our great clients and partners in person. Pam and I are still connected today even as our roles have shifted.
Q. What’s a memorable connection you’ve made through ULI?
When Morgan Meade moved from Pittsburgh to San Francisco, she was so well connected through ULI Pittsburgh that one of my coworkers in PA, who is also in ULI, reached out to me to be a buddy for Morgan here in San Francisco. We are still connected, and Morgan has encouraged me to be as active as she is in ULI.
Q. What keeps you engaged with ULI SF and what are you most excited about in the near future?
I don’t know of another organization whose mission and goals are closer to my personal vision for our industry than ULI’s. How could I not keep coming back?
Q. What do you hope to accomplish in the next year?
As a geotechnical engineer, design team member, and ULI sustainability committee leader, I’d like to implement a new sustainable solution that I learn about through my ULI colleagues on a Langan project.
Q. What’s your leadership philosophy/style?
People are most engaged and productive in what they are interested in, so our committee is wide-reaching and allows people to pursue events, collaborations, papers, advisory roles, and more, in the format that speaks to them. Sustainability is broad and we need all facets of it, and we have been learning a lot from our diverse committee membership.
Q. Outside of work and ULI, what do you enjoy doing?
I’ve been in the Golden Gate Triathlon Club since 2019 and made many strong friendships on the bike, track, and water, as well as trained for distances I didn’t think I could do. A few triathlon connections are even ULI members!
Q. What has been your most unusual role, to date?
When I worked as a geotechnical engineer in Boston, I used to walk into hand-dug tunnels underneath buildings to hand-draw sketches of pits beneath the foundations where old wooden piles were being replaced one by one with concrete piers. I met a rat or two down there, for sure.
Q. What’s your must-have food or drink?
James Acaster’s chorizo broccoli pasta
Thank you, Sarah, for your leadership within our Sustainability & Resilience Committee and our district council overall!
