UrbanPlan Champions: Hear Why Our Volunteer Stars Shine!
We're overjoyed to celebrate the incredible dedication of our latest UrbanPlan Volunteer Incentive Program winners!
Get to know some of the ULI San Francisco members who work hard behind the scenes to develop the events and initiatives for which our District Council is known. These industry leaders come from a variety of real estate land use sectors and lend their expertise and time to drive the work of our committees. We’ve asked these committee leaders to answer questions about their involvement with ULI San Francisco.
Lindsay Haddix, Housing the Bay Steering Committee Vice Chair
Executive Director, East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO)
Q: How did you first get involved with ULI and your committees?
A: I first joined ULI New York in 2013 when I was living in Brooklyn and working for the NYC Dept of Housing Preservation and Development. I had the privilege of joining the Housing the Bay Summit Steering Committee in the fall of 2021 to start planning for the 2022 Summit.
Q: What’s a memorable connection you’ve made through ULI?
A: There have been so many! I have really enjoyed working closely with my HTB Steering Committee Co-Chairs, Xiomara Cisneros and Swathi Bonda, and ULI SF ED Natalie Sandoval and ULI SF Manager Pooja Sharma. We’ve made a great team this year!
Q: What keeps you engaged with ULI SF and what are you most excited about in the near future?
A: I am a Planner by training, and I have been working on affordable housing/homelessness issues for 15+ years. ULI lets me tap into typical planning issues beyond housing that I don’t get exposure to in my daily work.
I am very excited that the Fall meeting will be in San Francisco this year!
Q: What do you hope to accomplish in the next year?
A: I am looking forward to stepping into the role of Housing the Bay Steering Committee Co-Chair next year and hope to continue the tradition of putting together a great program for the 2026 Summit. I am also excited to attend my first Spring Meeting this May, and hope to walk away with new knowledge and connections.
Q: Outside of work and ULI, what do you enjoy doing?
A: I enjoy reading, running, and traveling. I have a goal to read 24 books this year (wish me luck!); I have finished three marathons (NYC twice and San Francisco); and I have had the opportunity to visit six continents (all but Antarctica.)
Q: What has been your most unusual role, to date?
A: I wouldn’t call it unusual, but I worked as an Inspector for the Washington Department of Agriculture during cherry season in 2003. I worked 11-hour shifts, seven days a week in fruit warehouses in the Yakima Valley. I inspected thousands of cherries for overall quality and tested for insect infestation. My Carhartts were pretty stained with cherry juice by the end of the summer!
Q: What’s at the top of your ‘bucket list’?
A: Visiting Antarctica!
Thank you, Lindsay, for all your work on our Housing the Bay Steering Committee. Looking forward to another successful Summit on April 29!
