San Francisco’s reimagining of Market Street isn’t slowing down—if anything, the momentum is just getting started. In the coming weeks, ULI San Francisco and our partners are hosting a series of events and exhibitions where you can see the winning boards, hear directly from jurors and designers, and join conversations about Market Street’s future. From outdoor film nights and art walks to thought-provoking panels and the ULI Fall Meeting, these gatherings are your chance to experience the bold ideas that are shaping what’s next for the city.
Two months after the close of the Market Street Reimagined Ideas Competition, the response is still resonating across San Francisco. With over 170 submissions from designers, planners, artists, community members, and visionaries, the competition sparked a collective reimagining of Market Street’s untapped potential as a vibrant community hub.
We posed one major question: “What does it take to make a downtown core not just functional, but economically viable and experientially uplifting?”
The results were bold, thoughtful, and diverse—from street-level activations and cultural interventions to mobility solutions and economic revitalization strategies. The creativity and energy behind these submissions made one thing clear: San Franciscans aren’t ready to give up on Market Street, they’re ready to bring it back to life.
The momentum from the competition continues to build. In a strong show of support, Mayor Daniel Lurie’s Heart of the City Executive Directive calls for the implementation of ideas generated through the Market Street competition. This signals that the City is listening and ready to transform innovative concepts into tangible change.
In the coming weeks, upcoming events will highlight standout ideas from the competition and offer opportunities for the public to engage with the future of Market Street. These events will bring the public, city officials, and key stakeholders together to celebrate, discuss, and envision next steps.
Stay tuned for details on where and how to see these ideas brought to life—and how you can be part of the conversation.
Over the past couple months, the energy from the Market Street Reimagined competition has continued to build through events, exhibitions, and community conversations that brought the ideas off the page and into the public realm.
