Get to know some of the ULI San Francisco members who work hard behind the scenes to develop the events and initiatives our District Council is known for. These industry leaders come from a variety of real estate land use sectors and lend their expertise and time to drive the work of our committees. We’ve asked these committee co-chairs to answer questions around their involvement with ULI San Francisco.
Justin Zucker, Gala Committee Co-Chair & NEXT Committee Member
Associate, Reuben, Junius & Rose
Q. How did you first get involved with ULI and your committee?
At first, by going to events. I found the programming to be top notch and engaging. I then began exploring ways to get involved and joined the NEXT steering committee, helping program events. With the Gala being a first-ever event, I was humbled to be asked to co-lead the efforts.
Q. 2. What’s a memorable connection you’ve made through ULI?
My co-chair, Brynn McKiernan has been an amazing connection for which I am grateful for. Our paths hadn’t crossed before working on the Gala. While we’ve had our share of planning hurdles due to Covid, we’ve also managed to have fun along the way including adventures in San Diego at the Spring Meeting.
Q. What keeps you engaged with ULI SF and what are you most excited about in the near future?
The programming and people. The programming is always stellar with salient content useful to my land use practice. ULI SF’s membership is a great group of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Coming up, the Gala excites me the most. It’s going to be a wonderful opportunity to reconnect and renew with ULI SF.
Q. What do you hope to accomplish in the next year?
I’m hopeful that come this time next year we’ll be preparing to attend the second annual Gala. A quarter of Gala proceeds go to ULI SF’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Thus, a successful Gala means greater opportunity for ULI SF’s DEI initiatives to creating and sustaining thriving communities.
Q. What’s your leadership philosophy/style?
I believe in a collaborative approach. When working on a team, each contributor brings their own perspective and often different strengths. Uniting all in a collegial manner, I find, results in a better finished product, whether it be a panel discussion or event.
Q. Outside of work and ULI, what do you enjoy doing?
When not entertaining my four year old daughter, I’m often found either in the yard tending our garden or in the kitchen cooking up a feast. When the weather is right and the winds are with me, you can find me on my boat sailing Lake Tahoe.
Q. What’s your must-have food or drink?
Ketchup chips! While Canadians do many things right in my opinion, like universal healthcare and gun control, they tip the scale when it comes to their chip flavor game. Ketchup chips are a delicious combo of sweet and salty vinegar. Yum!
