Transbay Transit Center SECTION

Thank you for your interest in ULIsf’s Transbay Center “Grand Central of the West” Tour . This event is SOLD OUT, and the waitlist is now full. 

Please join ULI San Francisco for a walking tour of the new Transbay Transit Center. The perimeter tour, led by a member of the construction management team, will provide an in depth look at how the “Grand Central of the West” is coming along.

This visionary project will transform the local and regional transportation system by creating a “Grand Central Station of the West” in the heart of a new transit-friendly neighborhood. The $6 billion project is replacing the former Transbay Terminal, with a  state of the art transit hub connecting people across eight Bay Area counties and the State of California through 11 transit systems, including future High Speed Rail.

The project, designed by the architecture firm PCPA, will feature a five-story Transit Center including two below-grade rail levels and a 5.4 acre park on the roof. The new surrounding Transbay neighborhood will become a bustling heart of the city, with engaging urban spaces and a pedestrian friendly feel. Highlights of neighborhood will include 6 million square feet of new high-density commercial office, nearly 4,400 units of housing, 1,200 of which will be permanently affordable, around 100,000 square feet of retail, nearly 1,000 new hotel rooms, and 11 acres of new public open space.

Current construction activity includes the final stages of bus ramp construction, installation of the exterior awning, and work on the rooftop park. Ongoing welding, fireproofing, glazing, escalator and elevator installation, mechanical, electrical and plumbing work are also underway. The project is currently anticipated to open in late 2017, come join ULI San Francisco for an early look!
