An Evening with Doug Abbey and Luis Belmonte
Enjoy a ULI members-only event featuring a discussion between two long-time friends and giants in the real estate industry. These two industry leaders have over 90 combined years’ worth of real estate experience. Doug Abbey, Chairman of Swift Real Estate Partners, will sit down with Luis Belmonte of Seven Hills Properties to discuss Luis’ remarkable career and lessons learned along the way, including their experiences working together at AMB Property Corporation. The interchange of ideas will be candid, humorous, and insightful, and a fantastic opportunity to hear from the best in our industry.
About the Speakers
Mr. Douglas D. Abbey is Chairman of Swift Real Estate Partners and is responsible for the firm’s portfolio management activities. In 1983, he co-founded AMB Property Corporation (merged with Prologis in 2011) and in 1992, IHP Capital Partners. He has over 35 years’ experience in all phases of institutional real estate investment.
He is a trustee of the Urban Land Institute and since 2005 has taught real estate classes at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Mr. Abbey has a BA from Amherst College and an MCP from UC Berkeley. He is on the Board of Bridge Housing Corporation, a non-profit developer of affordable housing.
Mr. Luis A. Belmonte is a partner of Seven Hills Properties. He was Executive Vice President of AMB Property Corporation, where he ran its development program ($250 million per year) and supervised management of assets (50 million sf) in the Western U.S. During his tenure at AMB, he spearheaded its effort to enter the Mexican market and developed its headquarters building on the San Francisco waterfront. Prior to AMB, Mr. Belmonte was a partner with Lincoln Property Company and was responsible for industrial development projects in Northern California. Over the course of 16 years, he developed in excess of 18 million square feet of industrial buildings.
Mr. Belmonte is a member of the Urban Land Institute, and chairs an Industrial and Office Park Product Council. In addition to industry involvement, he is a board member of Boys Hope Girls Hope San Francisco and Board Chair of Ohlhoff Recovery Systems. He is also the author of Get Rich Slowly; Invest in Real Estate.
