Land costs, construction costs, entitlements and permitting costs are growing major impediments to delivering housing in the Bay Area. Adequate parking is often cited as important to a project’s success at nearly every level of the development process. In the long term, autonomous vehicles, public transit, bicycles and pedestrian-friendly streets, and work-housing proximity are alternatives with vast potential to creating livable communities. In the meantime, developers, city officials, and land use professionals all recognize that accommodating adequate vehicle parking is a fact of life, whether it is to meet planning requirements, future-resident demand or satisfy existing neighborhood concerns. As the parking footprint needs to get smaller so usable living space can be optimized, technological innovations in parking are becoming ever more popular.

Join ULI to tour two innovative solutions: a four-level puzzle stacker just completed in Old Oakland and the new first-on-the-West Coast Parking Tower constructed at the Hive. The tour will include background information from ­­­­Paul Nieto of Signature Development Group, the developer of both projects, and a representative from City Lift.

Attendees will wind up the tour at Lost & Found Beer Garden for complimentary beverages, networking, and conversation.
