Real Deal: SF Jazz Center Sneak Peak
Join architect Mark Cavagnero, FAIA for a hardhat tour of the SFJAZZ Center, opening on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day January 21, 2013. The center will be the first ground up facility in the country dedicated to jazz performance and education, underscoring the significant role this indigenous American art form has played in San Francisco and the United States. Located in Hayes Valley, the three-story, 35,000 sf project unites SFJAZZ’s multi-faceted mission to showcase world-class jazz artists from around the globe, nurture young musicians, and promote jazz education through outreach while establishing a hub for preservation and innovation in the art form. The center features flexible seating configurations inside the state-of-the-art auditorium, a smaller glazed intimate performance space, rehearsal spaces, digital learning lab, and sidewalk café in a highly transparent, LEED Gold structure.
Hardhats and safety vests will be provided by the contractor. Please wear long pants and closed-toed hard-soled shoes, and arrive on-site by 3:15 p.m. Onsite registration will be from 3:00-3:30
